News came down yesterday that 10 Lehigh County dispatchers were let go because of a New Year’s Eve incident at the County’s 911 call center. Apparently one of the supervisors brought in some eggnog and 10 staffers did a short New Year’s toast, then went back to work. The county found out about this after a complaint was filed and with that fired 3 supervisors and gave 7 dispatchers the choice of resigning or getting canned. They all chose to resign. Since this happened a lot of people thought this was way too much of a penalty for just doing a short toast with eggnog (which by the way… only has a half shot of booze in each glass) but the County does have a policy in place that forbids drinking on the job in any capacity.
So we ask you this morning — was the County right in getting rid of ten dispatchers because of this? …or, was this overkill and should they have NOT been fired? What do you think!
