Blink-182's Tom DeLonge Unveils Signature Fender Starcaster

Blink-182's Tom DeLonge Unveils Signature Fender Starcaster

Blink-182 guitarist and co-lead vocalist Tom DeLonge has unveiled a new signature Starcaster guitar by Fender.

This one-of-a-kind Starcaster has many changes to the original, released in the 1970s. It features an offset semi-hollow body, "C" neck shape, 12"-radius rosewood fingerboard and DeLonge's logo on the neckplate.

DeLonge's first public performance with the guitar was on display during Blink-182's current global tour in support of the album, One More Time.

He shared its video on Instagram.

"I love this guitar, I really do. It's the coolest guitar ever made. Firstly, it is called a Starcaster-that's the most important thing. It goes to space and expands your mind," DeLonge said in a statement.

He added, "I've streamlined the electronics, added the '70s headstock to round out the weight, and chose the matte finish with black hardware, so its look matches its modern feel. This guitar shows my evolution as a player but also has the hallmarks of where I came from and what I'm about."

Beach Boys' Brian Wilson Duets With Late Glen Campbell On 'Strong'

Beach Boys' Brian Wilson Duets With Late Glen Campbell On 'Strong'

The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson teamed up with the late Glen Campbell for a posthumous duet of Campbell's song, "Strong."

"Strong (with Brian Wilson)" marks the latest entry in the upcoming duet collection Glen Campbell Duets - Ghost on the Canvas Sessions, which arrives on April 19th.

"Strong," which originally appeared on Campbell's 2011 "farewell" album Ghost on the Canvas, describes Campbell's onset of Alzheimer's Disease. Campbell co-wrote "Strong" with producer Julian Raymond.

Campbell vows to his wife to maintain his resilience in the face of the disease, confessing, "All I want to be for you is strong."

In the duet, Wilson shares Campbell's verses quite convincingly and with great clarity. His signature harmonies add a lovely feel.

"Glen was a great singer and a great guy. Our intention in doing 'Strong' was to echo back to 'Guess I'm Dumb' and the times that Glen and I worked together. It's kinda got that vibe to it and I dig the sound of it," Wilson said of the posthumous collaboration.

Courtney Love Slams Taylor Swift As 'Not Important,' 'Not Interesting As An Artist'

Courtney Love Slams Taylor Swift As 'Not Important,' 'Not Interesting As An Artist'

In a recent interview with The Standard promoting her BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds series, "Courtney Love's Women," Courtney Love slammed Taylor Swift, saying "she's not important" and "not interesting as an artist."

"Taylor is not important," Love said. "She might be a safe space for girls, and she's probably the Madonna of now, but she's not interesting as an artist."

It's not known why Love has a contrarian view about Swift now after having wished her a happy birthday in December 2021 via Facebook. She called Swift an "aspirational huge role model for many young women" at the time. The post also featured a photo of Love and her "occasional hair twin/neighbor."

Courtney also spoke about Lana Del Rey and Madonna during the recent interview with The Standard.

"I haven't liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off," she said. "Up until 'Take Me Home Country Roads' I thought she was great. When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much."

About Madonna, Love said, "I don't like her and she doesn't like me. I loved Desperately Seeking Susan, but for the city of New York as much as her."

Allman Brothers Co-Founder Dicky Betts Dead At 80

Allman Brothers Co-Founder Dicky Betts Dead At 80

Dicky Betts, a co-founder the Allman Brothers Band, died Thursday in Osprey, Florida, at the age of 80.

In an Instagram post, the Betts family wrote, "It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard 'Dickey' Betts (December 12, 1943 - April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old."

"The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch passed away earlier today at his home in Osprey, FL., surrounded by his family. Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt world-wide," they added.

Betts was a co-founding member of The Allman Brothers band alongside brothers Duane and Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe Johanson, and Berry Oakley.

When Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle crash in 1971, Betts assumed the role of the group's lead guitarist and also took over more of a singing role.

Betts was the writer and singer on the Allmans' hit single "Ramblin' Man." He also gained renown for composing instrumentals, with one appearing on most of the group's albums, including "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Jessica" (which was later used as the theme to Top Gear).

The band went through a hiatus in the late 1970s, during which time Betts, like many of the other band members, pursued a solo career and side projects under such names as Great Southern and The Dickey Betts Band.

John Oates Says He's 'Moved On' From Hall & Oates

John Oates Says He's 'Moved On' From Hall & Oates

John Oates has revealed that after months of litigation with Daryl Hall, he is moving on from the band with which he has been a part for half-a-century.

Hall & Oates was an American pop rock duo formed in Philadelphia in 1970. Daryl Hall was generally the lead vocalist; John Oates primarily played the electric guitar and provided backing vocals. The two wrote most of the songs they performed.

They achieved their greatest fame from the mid-1970s to the late 1980s with a fusion of rock and roll, soul music, and rhythm and blues.

"As far as I'm concerned, I've moved on. I feel like I have a new lease on my creative life," Oates said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

However, he made it clear that he is always open for continuing his relationship with Hall as friends in the future.

Hall filed a lawsuit against Oates last November to block him from selling his share in the duo's publishing to Primary Wave Music. He won the legal fight by obtaining a temporary restraining order.

Despite the separation, Oates has only good words for Hall, calling him "an amazing individual."

"He is one of the great, great songwriters of all time, and without a doubt, one of the great singers of all time. I would never say anything negative about him," Oates said. "But we have a different strategy for our lives, and we have a different strategy for our business lives as well as our personal lives."

He added, "And that's that, so be it. We're old guys. We deserve to be allowed to do whatever we want to do."

The version is now available as a limited edition on physical single formats, including a replica of the 1994 CD single, which also includes the white label demo of "Columbia," and an individually numbered pearl colored 7" vinyl.

"A live extravaganza from the 70s Jethro Tull, this was recorded over several nights in different venues on a portable 8-track tape recorder and transferred to 2" multitrack when I got home after the tours," said Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson. "I had to listen all through to many shows and pick the best live versions. But much of it was, at least, from the concert in Bern, Switzerland, where dear Claude Nobs came to introduce the band in his inimitable style."

He added, "Also featuring on this box set collection is the live concert from Madison Square Gardens recorded a few months later and shown live on BBC TV in the UK. U2 Sarajevo Concert Documentary 'Kiss The Future' To Premiere On Paramount+

U2 Sarajevo Concert Documentary 'Kiss The Future' To Premiere On Paramount+

Kiss The Future, a documentary based on U2's 1997 concert in Sarajevo, will premiere on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada on May 7.

The documentary, featuring interviews with U2's Bono, the Edge and Adam Clayton as well as Christine Amanpour and Bill Clinton tells a story of defiance amid the 1990s' siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War.

The story follows the band's promise to an American aid worker Bill Carter to perform a post-war concert, which came to fruition when they played to 45,000 local fans in a liberated city, a show that lives on as a joyous collective memory for the people of Sarajevo.

The film "documents how through superhuman acts of courage and creativity, the people of Sarajevo kept going while their city was under siege during the bloody Balkan civil war of the early 1990s," says the Edge. "Their story of defiance and resistance against extreme nationalism couldn't be more relevant to today. To have been even a small part of this amazing story is a huge privilege."

Produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for Artists Equity and Sarah Anthony, the film is directed by Nenad Cicin-Sain and written by Bill S. Carter and Cicin-Sain, based on Carter's memoir, "Fools Rush In."

Kiss The Future made its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and opened the Tribeca Festival in 2023.

Gibson Unveil Reproduction Of Slash's 'Jessica' Les Paul

Gibson Unveil Reproduction Of Slash's 'Jessica' Les Paul

Slash and Gibson have collaborated on a new signature model guitar: the "Jessica" Les Paul Standard.

"Jessica" has been Slash's main stage guitar since 1988 and has been used primarily to perform songs from Guns N' Roses' debut album Appetite for Destruction. It has remained his go-to instrument for live performances ever since he retired his Kris Derrig and Max Baranet LP replicas in the late '80s.

Slash first acquired Jessica around 1988. The guitar was one of two factory seconds with three-piece tops that Gibson sent Slash. Originally, the guitar came fitted with a bright Cherry Sunburst, though it was later re-finished with a slightly more subtle Honey Burst.

The new model features a three-piece plain maple top on a non-weight-relieved mahogany body and a mahogany neck with a 50s Vintage neck profile. "Jessica" is powered by a pair of Custom Burstbucker pickups with Alnico 2 magnets that are hand-wired to Orange Drop capacitors.

"This guitar has been with me since 1988," Slash said in a press release. "It's faded, I f---ing dropped a cigarette on it . I named it when I was drunk, but I don't remember what the catalyst for that was!"

The "Jessica" signature model retails for $3,199 and is available via Gibson's website.
