MILLER-KEYSTONE ISSUES CALL FOR BLOOD DONORS

Miller-Keystone Blood Center has declared a blood emergency for the O-positive, O-negative, and A-negative blood types in our region. The Blood Center needs approximately 450 donors to walk through its doors daily in order to meet patient needs. These blood products are required to care for premature infants, trauma or burn victims, surgery or cancer patients.
Because of increased travel, family and holiday activity, combined with accidents and other illness, there has been a sharp decline in blood and platelet donations.
Even if you do not know your blood type, please donate! It is only blood donated that can save lives. The Blood Center urges those with a O-negative blood group to donate because it is O-negative blood that can be transfused to anyone in need regardless of their blood type.
Donating blood is safe and easy, and takes less than one hour. In order to donate you must be 17 years of age or older, weigh a minimum of 110 poounds, and be in general good health; they must not have donated in the past eight weeks. All donors are also required to provide valid identification; ID must have the donor's name printed on it, plus a photo and/or signature.
Please visit or make an appointment at one of the following locations:
- Allentown: 1255 S. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Suite 1300
- Bethlehem: 1465 Valley Center Parkway
- Easton: Chrin Commons Building, 2925 William Penn Highway, Suite 105

ASHLY'S 5K RACE FOR FREEDOM: A SOLDIER'S LEGACY

Want a wonderful way to honor our local troops?
Run or walk in the Ashly’s 5K Race for Freedom, A Soldiers Legacy on Saturday, September 4th!
Ashly Moyer was an active service member of the United States Army, 630th Military Police Company. She was promoted to Sergeant shortly before she died in Baghdad, Iraq on March 3, 2007, when an IED exploded under the armored patrol vehicle she was driving. Ashly was the 21st person from the Lehigh Valley and the 71st female service member to die since the war began. She was 21 years old.
Ashly was loved by many, and it is that love that has inspired "Ashly’s 5K Race for Freedom, A Soldiers Legacy". A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the "Ashly Moyer Memorial Scholarship Fund", established at Emmaus High School, Ashly’s alma mater.
The majority of the proceeds will be donated to The Lehigh Valley Blue Star Mothers, a group that supports our troops and veterans.
