99.9 The Hawk - Classic Rock of the 70s, 80s, and more!

The Grammy Hall of Fame has set the benchmark for recognizing timeless and significant music recordings since its inception in 1973. Coincidentally, this was also the year that hard rock favorites Aerosmith released their first hit ‘Dream On’, which this year will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

First appearing on the band’s self-titled debut album, ‘Dream On’ was initially a slow burner, but it soon picked up notoriety due to the enthusiasm of fans on Aerosmith’s home turf of Boston. A re-release of the song three years later in 1976 proved more successful, earning them a number 6 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The band has endured throughout five decades of touring, fighting and, eventually, settling down with their significant others. During this time they’ve scooped 4 Grammy Awards for the now-discontinued category of “Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal”, released 15 studio albums, and toured a staggering thirty-one times.

One infamous tour was the Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock Tour of 2010, which was plagued by uncertainty surrounding Steven Tyler’s continuing role in the band and resulted in some palpable tension between the Toxic Twins. It’s common knowledge that front man Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry have had a rocky relationship at the best of times—earning them their joint nickname—but their bickering on this tour nearly split up the band for good.

However, they managed to put the bad blood behind them before setting off on a (supposedly) final round-the-world farewell tour last year titled Aero-Vederci Baby! Unfortunately, shows had to be cancelled and the tour put on hold indefinitely due to Tyler’s ill health. No news so far on whether the tour will be resurrected any time soon.

In recent years, rock legend and celebrity Tyler has spent more time with his daughters Mia and Liv Tyler, often appearing on outings with them and their kin. Liv Tyler, who’s a famous actress in her own right and now engaged to David Beckham’s best bud, has been living in London for several years. However, if he plans to visit, her father may need some advice on how to fit in with the London crowd. Perhaps Liv’s new pals, the Primrose Hill set, could point him in the right direction towards Soho.

Despite Tyler’s recent health problems, band members have hinted that there could be new Aerosmith material written sometime in the near future, as they all enjoyed being back on the road this time. 2020 would see the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation, so it would really be something to see them releasing new music together after all that time.

Aerosmith are in good company as they have ‘Dream On’ inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees include seminal grunge rockers Nirvana, trailblazing guitarist Jimi Hendrix and British icons David Bowie and Queen. Their songs join the ranks of classic recordings such as Elvis Presley’s ‘Suspicious Minds’, Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ and ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.
